When Country Living approached me about my greatest holiday gift, I immediately knew what to say. In 2008 we traveled to Paris for a family vacation over the Holidays. It was my first time in Paris and I fell totally head over heels for the city. So much so, that the next summer I made a point to take a course on Surface Design through The Fashion Institute of Technology that was based in Paris. With the original intentions to communicate my day to day activities to my family members while abroad, that trip was ironically, the genesis of Fourth Floor Walk Up. Because as we all know, back in 2009, social media sites like Instagram and Pinterest didn't exist (so strange to think what life was like 4 years ago). The next Christmas my mother gave me this Antique Paris Map as a remembrance our family holiday and my love of all things French.
There are many reasons why this is my favorite gift. Of course one is the sentimentality of it, but also the history behind he piece. The map is from 1885 and predates the Eiffel Tower! I also love that whomever originally owned and used it as a tourist map, had walking paths and specific locations stared and highlighted with markers. Sometime I plan to take the same walks that are marked on this map, a chance to relive the past.
