COLOR STORIES: ORANGE

SPACESLauren CaronComment

To continue my color stories series we're on to the next color in the rainbow. Orange. What comes to mind when you think of the color orange, and what is your favorite orange thing? For me, it's the orange Hermes box. Of course the packaging will never be as good as the contents but they do make for chic storage bins. Iconic French Style Image

Legend be told that the orange boxes came about during World War II when the existing box design must be changed. The original design was cream-colored with gilded-edges in an imitation pig skin material. There was a shortage of all packing materials so Hermes was forced to use the only plain paperboard available, which was orange. After the war Hermes chose to use an enhanced and more vivid orange as their color for packaging materials. Today there are more than 180 sizes of Hermes boxes.
