Hello my trustee readers! I want to say thank you to the three of you, for the comments and suggestions on the light fixture. I ended up purchasing the most popular choice and I'm very happy with it. Easy installation and it looks great! I have been a busy bee lately working on our apartment. I am so proud of ourselves as we accomplished hanging our new light fixture in the bedroom, hanging the full length mirror that I've had leaning against the wall since we moved in, we hung a new paper towel holder - I know sounds so exciting- and finally, we've made progress on the entertainment center/bookshelves/faux-fireplace wall that we've slowly been building.
As you can see we still have to finish them with molding, hardware and a few doors. Ideally, I'd like to close off above the fish tank and put doors up there. I also have to organize our books a little bit better. I'm sure you all are as excited about the progress as I am (sarcasm). I have also began a few new projects that I'll give some sneak peaks of. 1. The kitchen table - going black. 2. new throw pillows for the living room. 3. new curtains for the bedroom!
1. The Kitchen table - a few weekends ago I woke up the with need to paint something. I have a number of things on the list, but the most interesting project I decided would be to paint the kitchen table and chairs black. Actually, my first thoughts were . . "black with a hint of grey" (I think that was mainly because I was afraid to just go black). As always living in the city brings up a few hassles when it comes to painting. I can't spray paint, even though I'd be more than happy to. If anyone else has done it without access to a roof, backyard, alley or large fire escape, please clue me in. With that said I headed on over to my local Janovic to buy a the new pint sized can of paint. After a few minutes of contemplation looking at the 20 different swatches of black I decided to go with the color Ebony King. Well, after it dried and it looked like a wrought iron table and far too country for me, we had to run back to the paint store to get a blacker, black. We ended up the colore Onyx.
2. The new throw pillows for our couch - are finished! I spent about 4 hours on saturday (yes, I'm slow) cutting and sewing up some pillows to create a little contrast in the room. My vibrant accent color of a corally-red-orange made it's first debute into these creations. One side is an organic coral print and the other is a geometric print, I thought these would be able to work with whatever mood I'm in.
3. Lastly, new Bedroom Curtains! - I discovered the most beautiful fabric at Mood last week (only $22.00/yd!) It's an Ikat print in soft color scheme of greys, tans, yellows and mauves, that just screamed curtains to me. With the colors in mind, I've already chosen the paint and the coordinating fabrics for the chair and pillows. They only had 4 1/2 yards left, so it may be a challenge for me to squeeze some curtains out of it, but luckily, I only have one window in my bedroom. Can wait to get started on this.
